INDEPENDENT HOW-TO GUIDE
Recover from a government portal session timeout
What to do when a government portal signs you out or shows a session-expired message.
Government systems may end a session after inactivity or when a page is left open too long. Protect any unfinished work and avoid sharing credentials with anyone offering to restore a session.
01
Before you begin
- If a payment or form submission was processing when the session ended, check its status before repeating the action.
- Use the official portal address and keep your sign-in credentials private.
02
Steps to follow
- Read the message before actingCheck whether the page says the session expired, the service is unavailable or a submission is still processing.
- Return to the official starting pageNavigate to the service from its official homepage rather than reusing an old session link.
- Sign in again only on the verified siteUse the portal’s normal sign-in flow and follow any security check it displays.
- Check whether your draft or submission existsReview the application dashboard and references before restarting a form.
- If the timeout repeats, contact official supportNote the error and approximate time, but never send a password or one-time code.
03
Important notes
- Do not repeatedly submit a payment or application just because the old browser tab shows a timeout.
- AGI cannot restore a portal session or retrieve unsaved form data.
