Fix common government portal document-upload errors

Checks for file type, size, filename and upload errors when a portal requests supporting documents.

Document rules vary by agency and application. Use the exact file types, size limits and document instructions displayed on the official portal instead of assuming that every service has the same requirements.

01

Before you begin

  • Keep the original document securely stored and use a copy for upload.
  • Read the file type, size and image-quality rules shown by the portal before changing the file.
02

Steps to follow

  1. Check the requested formatUse the file type accepted by the service and do not rename a file extension to pretend it is a different format.
  2. Check the file sizeIf the portal has a maximum size, create a smaller legible copy without removing required information.
  3. Use a clear filenameUse a short filename with letters and numbers where possible; avoid unusual symbols if the portal rejects the name.
  4. Check legibility and orientationMake sure text, dates and document edges are readable and the correct pages are included.
  5. Upload one file at a time if the portal allowsWait for each upload to complete and verify that the file appears before moving to the next step.
  6. Follow the portal’s error messageIf it still fails, record the non-sensitive message and contact the service provider through its official support route.

Important notes

  • Do not alter or falsify official documents to make an upload succeed.
  • AGI does not receive or store your application documents and cannot change a portal’s upload limits.
