MACHAKOS, Kenya — More than 2.5 million candidates across the nation have officially begun their 2026 Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA) and Kenya Junior School Education Assessment (KJSEA). The administration began smoothly despite widespread heavy rainfall advisories targeting multiple counties.
Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba, speaking during the opening of examination distribution containers in Makindu, assured stakeholders that strict logistical arrangements are in place to preserve the integrity of the evaluations.

Key Assessment Metrics

• Total Registered Candidates: 2,580,483
• KPSEA Candidates: 1,380,483

• KJSEA Candidates: 1,200,000

In a major policy departure from previous national examination setups, the Ministry of Education announced that armed police officers will no longer be routinely stationed inside the assessment centers. Instead, monitoring will be overseen by center managers and supervisors, a strategy designed to foster a less intimidating environment for younger learners while still maintaining strict anti-malpractice protocols.
